This piece was created as an entry into the 2014 Big 12 Trombone Conference Composition Contest. It calls for solo bass trombone and solo tenor trombone with trombone octet. In this piece the solo parts "argue" with one another, so instead of symmetrical phrases between solos, the solo parts step on and interrupt one another. The piece is quite aggressive in attitude and presents a strong challenge for the soloists. As the piece progresses, the solo parts start to "work together" and become more of a unit. The octet, meanwhile, provides rhythmic and harmonic support for the soloists, and helps to keep the intensity going even when the soloists are resting. Duration: 6 min.
