This piece was written for a good friend of mine from the University of Alabama, Andrew Stadler. The piece is set for flugelhorn and piano, and has many elements that are unlike my usual style. This piece is very tranquil, and one of the more gentle pieces I have ever written. The piece has a strict form; it sticks to symmetrical phrases and works to develop the opening melody throughout the piece. Performance note: when this piece was performed the performer started on flugelhorn, switched to trumpet at rehearsal mark 'E', then switched back to flugelhorn at rehearsal mark 'H'. This isn't required of the piece, but the range of the piece near the climax is quite high for flugelhorn. Of course it is the performer's decision whether or not to change. The instrument switch however does provide even more color to the piece as it goes on. Duration: 6 min.
