Reckoning is the second original composition written for the Skin N' Bones concert at the University of Alabama. With these pieces, I take a film score style of approach. This piece in particular is quite literal with that approach in that the entire piece is an homage to Hans Zimmer, one of my favorite composers and biggest inspirations for composition. Reckoning has a very dark timbre to it, with some of the most dissonance of any of my pieces and has the idea of triumph over adversity as its theme. This piece calls for: 10 trombones, timpani, snare drum, bass drum, tom-toms, tenor drum, bass drum, cymbals, chimes, xylophone, 4 marimba parts, vibraphone, piano, and most importantly...organ. The organ part on this piece is quite crucial, and the piece is incredibly lacking without it. Duration: 9-10 min.
