1 - Fanfare for Trombone Choir
The first in a series of short fanfares for trombone choir, the music for each fanfare in this series is derived from its number. Since this piece is simply called "1", everything about the music is based on one: one key, the pulse in one, one motive, and so forth. Even though this piece is short (roughly 2.5 minutes), it calls for a high level of skill and endurance. Most parts play throughout the entire piece sustaining driving ostinatos or passing the melody around. Like most of my trombone choir pieces, certain sections of dense counterpoint and unique harmonic progressions will pose a challenge for even the strongest players. A MIDI recording of the piece can be heard below.
